EU supports a joint Slovenian-Croatian smart grid project

The joint smart grid project called SINCRO.GRID will receive €40.5 million from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The funds will support 51% of the joint project.

The project will enable current infrastructure to manage additional renewable energy, and result in greater energy security without building new overhead cables. Slovenia and Croatia are both central to the European electricity transmission system and their transmission systems host substantial east-west electricity transit flow. The growth in renewable energy will increase such transit.
