Volkswagen Group opened its data centre in Rjukan yesterday, with a capacity of 2.75 MW. Under constant operation, the data centre would have an annual electricity consumption of 24 GWh. The data centre is powered by 100% renewable energy and will be used for complex data operations in the development of the Volkswagen Group's new cars.
The investment from Volkswagen and Audi at Rjukan amounted to NOK 180 million with a contract that extends over seven years. The contract is the culmination of several factors - Norway’s abundance of low-cost renewable power, the government’s beneficial framework conditions and Green Mountain’s ability to deliver high-quality data centers at a rapid speed to market.
