The following series will highlight central countries in the market for Guarantees of Origin. The first article takes a closer look at Norway, the single largest issuer and exporter of GOs in the AIB.
Norway has, with its longstanding hydropower sector, access to excess renewable electricity, primarily from hydropower. Together with low domestic demand for renewable energy attributes, this has led Norway to become the leading exporter of GOs. With a production mix of 97.9% renewables, the final supplier mix consisted of only 25.8% renewables in 2017, leaving a large share of GOs available for export.
