Europe added 4.5 GW of wind energy capacity in the first half of 2018, according to figures released yesterday by WindEurope. This is a decrease of 26% from the 6.1 GW installed during the same period last year, but is in line with expectations.
A total of 3.3 GW of onshore wind was installed, primarily driven by 1.6 GW installed in Germany, 605 MW in France and 202 MW in Denmark.
Offshore wind totalled 1.1 GW, primarily driven by installations in the UK (911 MW), Belgium (175 MW) and Denmark (28 MW). Germany is set to complete offshore installations during the second half of 2018, with 430 MW already installed, but not connected to the grid. Another 1.5 GW are under construction, some of which are likely to finish this year. All in all, 3.3 GW of new offshore wind and 10.2 GW of onshore wind are expected during 2018, result...
