On 16 December, Avangrid Inc. filed a request with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities to stop their review of the wind company’s power purchase agreements (PPAs) and have their wind project be put in for rebidding for the spring of 2023. Avangrid, a subsidiary of Iberdrola, S.A, is heading the Commonwealth Offshore Wind Project, an offshore wind farm located 22 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard, an island off the coast of Massachusetts. Commonwealth Wind is expected to bring 1,232 MW of offshore wind energy into Massachusetts. The renewable energy project will reduce CO2 output by 2.35 million tons annually and power 700,000 homes in the state.
