Hydropower generation fell by 8% (38 TWh) among AIB members in 2017 compared to 2016. This lowers the overall hydro GO supply. Climate researchers anticipate 2018 to be another warm and dry year in Europe.
Renewable electricity generation is the basis of renewable GO supply, and hydropower is the dominant energy source. Whereas both GO issuance and cancellation volumes keep growing, hydropower generation decreased by in 2017, from 478 TWh to in 2016 to 440 TWh (data: ENTSO-E). 95% of the missing 38 TWh is attributed to Spain (8%TWh), France (- 19 TWh), and Italy (- 11 TWh).
