On 21 September 2022, the European Commission approved over EUR 5 billion in funds for hydrogen-related projects. The support was approved by the Commission under EU State aid rules and is the second Important Project of Common European Interest ('IPCEI') associated with the hydrogen value chain.
A comparison of the two IPCEI announcements is given below.
The commission found that the IPCEI Hy2Use contributes to a common objective in supporting the Green Deal, REPowerEU plan and the Hydrogen Strategy, with the individual projects that are part of the IPCEI going beyond current offerings as far as infrastructure and technology are concerned.
