European Parliament ups ambitions for hydrogen in transport

On 13 July 2022 the Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE) of the European Parliament voted for more ambitious targets for sustainable energy, with regards to renewable energy share, energy efficiency and hydrogen uptake in the transport sector.

The committee agreed to increase the 2030 target for a renewable share in final energy consumption to 45%, from the prior target of 32% which was set in 2018. This 45% target which would be adopted in the RED revision is also in alignment with the EC REPowerEU package.

An agreement was also reached regarding the number of cross-border green power projects, with all member states obliged to undertake at least two such project...
