Joint declaration for hydrogen and implications for GOs and certification

On 5 May 2022, the Commissioner for Internal Market, Theirry Breton and European electrolyser manufacturers signed a Joint Declaration, committing to increase electrolyser production capacity. This will entail a ten-fold increase in production capacity currently at 1.75 GW/yr, to 17.5 GW by 2025.

The development of the nascent European hydrogen industry is also part of the REPowerEU communication to achieve energy security, reduce reliance on Russian gas, as well as increase renewable energy supply.

An annual EU production target of 10 million tonnes green hydrogen by 2030 was suggested; this will require substantial electrolyser installation capacity and the associated capability to man...
