After missing targets for cutting carbon emission and a potential deficit in meeting climate targets both this year and next, Economy Minister and Green Party co-leader Robert Habeck has delivered sharp criticism of Germany’s record on climate change. Meanwhile, he pledged that the new government would triple the speed of emission reduction to return Germany to its “climate target path”.
Germany’s effort to reduce emissions has been complicated by its decision to phase out nuclear power by the end of this year.
