Norway raises bar for biofuels

On 18 September, the Norwegian government announced an increase in the biofuel blending target up, to 24.5% of which advanced biofuels will account for 9%. 

The new requirement will be in effect from the beginning of 2021. According to the Norwegian authority, the change is an important measure to ensure that the importation of biofuels does not contribute to deforestation.

Sveinung Rotevatn, Minister of Climate and Environment stressed the importance of biofuels in reducing emissions from road transport, also noting that advanced biofuels are made of farm and forest waste and do not contribute to deforestation.
