Funded by Swedish authorities, the world's first public demonstration of E-highway opened in Sweden, 2km on E16 highway north of Stockholm. The electrical trucks are jointly developed by Scania and Siemens, and the core component is a combination of intelligent pantograph that allows the high speed and a hybrid engine that enables the truck to complete the rest of the journey without overhead wires.
Though electrified trolley buses have been common for decades, in E-highway heavy electric trucks can speed up to 90 km/h. This project is important for Sweden to fulfill its goal of having a fossil fuel independent transport sector by 2030. Siemens also developing a test route in California ...
