German UBA becomes AIB member

AIB announced that the German UBA (Umweltbundesamt) has joined the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB) along with the Spanisch CNMC (La Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia) in March 2016. The UBA operates the Herkunftsnachweisregister (HKNR), which is the German GO register. Already since 2013 the UBA was allowed to use the AIB hub for international transfers of Guarantees of Origin (GOs). However, co-determination rights such as the right to vote in general meetings of the AIB are reserved for regular members only. Germany holds a dominant position within the European market of GOs. Alone in 2015 the UBA cancelled 80 million GOs.
