Greenshamed Amazon jumps back into corporate renewables market

After being accused of abandoning 100% renewable energy goal by Greenpeace, the tech giant Amazon signs three new deals in the corporate renewables market.

According to a Greenpeace report ‘Clicking Clean Virginia – The Dirty Energy Powering Data Center Alley’ released in February 2019, some of Amazon’s most important datacenters in the US state of Virginia, were powered by only 12% renewable energy. The report claims that “the expansion of Amazon and other cloud computing giants in Virginia’s “Data Center Alley” is further fueling climate change with new demand for dirty energy.” “Despite Amazon’s public commitment to renewable energy, the world’s largest cloud computing company is hoping no one will notice that it’s still powering its corner of the internet with dirty energy,” said Greenpeace USA Senior Corporate Campaigner...
