The European Commission published the results of their open consultation on the new renewable energy directive REDII. The majority of the replies (58% of more than 600) came from associations, including industry associations, NGOs, professional associations and the renewable energy industry. But also think-tanks, individuals and public authorities submitted their contributions. According to the summary Guarantees of Origin (GOs) are viewed to pose “an important factor to drive market demand for renewable energy by enabling consumer choice”, if the system is “easily understandable”. Furthermore, the contributors to the public consultation widely support the idea that GOs should also be issued for other types of energy, not only for renewables. However, not all stakeholders agree that full disclosure should be mandatory as this would result in additional administrative work.
