European Consumer Organization on the renewable electricity market

BEUC, the European Consumer Organization, supports Guarantees of Origin (GOs) as trustworthy tool for the disclosure of electricity. It also supports AIB’s suggestion to implement the usage of GOs (and only GOs) for tracking all electricity sources, not only renewable sources. The organization states that the consumers must be informed that a GO does not represent additionality in the form of more investment in renewable energy infrastructure, but that the GO system is merely a statistical tool to track electricity consumption.
