In December 2015, the French energy company Neoen officially opened Europe’s largest photovoltaic power plant. The plant is located in Cestas, close to the city of Bordeaux in south-west France, has a capacity of 300 MW and was built on a 250-hectare site. According to the annual electricity report of RTE (Réseau de Transport d’Électricité), almost a quarter of the increase in installed solar power capacity that was achieved in 2015 in France can be attributed solely to the connection of the Cestas solar plant to the RTE network.
