German solar generation reaches 46 TWh in 2018

Germany saw a record 46 TWh of solar power produced in 2018, up 18% from 2017, covering 8% of gross electricity consumption, industry group BSW Solar said on Thursday. "Particularly in the hot summer months, when many conventional power plants had to reduce their performance due to rising temperatures in river waters, solar photovoltaic (PV) made a major contribution to supplying electricity in Germany," said Carsten Körnig, Managing Director of the German Solar Industry Association (BSW Solar).
