Austria’s largest state, Lower Austria, has increased the share of renewable energy from 80% to 100% in the last 10 years. Lower Austria has invested 2.8 billion euros in the expansion of renewable energy since 2002, as stated by the governor of Lower Austria, Erwin Pröll. With a percentage of about 75% Austria is leading among countries in the European Union when it comes to the proportion of electricity that is generated from renewable sources.
