E-control’s analysis shows the rise of active consumers in Austria

E-control has analyzed what Austrian consumers consider when changing their electricity and gas provider, by using data from their own tariff calculator [1].

Around 150 electricity suppliers are operating in the Austrian market, serving around 5 million households, businesses, and other small-scale customers. The number of available suppliers is on the rise, but varies from region to region, averaging around 25. Wien, for instance, has 125 tariff options amongst 50 alternative suppliers.

The observed increase in the available options for consumers is not only due to additional suppliers entering the market but also due to a wider product differentiation amongst suppliers.
