NVE has released their quarterly report on the Norwegian power situation, revealing a substantial shortage in available hydropower.
May was the warmest month since measurements started in 1900, which led to an increased rate of snow melting. Snow reservoirs are lower than normal across the entire country. Estimates show that there is 4.8 TWh potential energy left in the snow, compared to the normal of 15.5 TWh.
Inflow for Q2 was 54.9 TWh which is around normal for the quarter, however, since snow melting began five weeks before normal, it corresponds to an amount lower than normal. Furthermore, this means there will be less snow melting during Q3.
