Global Investment in Solar Energy likely to fall in 2018

In a recent article, Renewable Energy Magazine outlines how global investment in solar energy is likely to fall in 2018, using data from Bloomberg NEF (BNEF). Worldwide investment in renewable energy during the first six months of 2018 was at $138.2 billion, a slight decrease of 1% compared to the same period in 2017.

On the other hand, global investment in wind energy has increased by 33% to $57.2 bn during the first half of 2018, while investment in solar decreased by 19%. Two main reasons for the decrease are cited. First, lower capital costs for photovoltaic projects mean that less funding is required per megawatt installed. Second, there has been a slowdown in China’s rapid solar expansion.
