Greenfact has just released a detailed analysis of the Guarantees of Origin market in Switzerland.
Highlights:
- As of the 1st of January 2018, all electricity delivered to end-consumers in Switzerland is required to be issued Guarantees of Origin (GOs).
- Switzerland issued GOs for 35.6 TWh of renewable electricity, and 37.5 TWh of renewable GOs were canceled in 2017, which means that Switzerland has excess demand relative to domestic supply.
- Swiss hydro GOs trade at a considerable premium, the spot price in May 2018 was at CHF 3.46, approx. EUR 3.
- The development target for solar, wind, biomass and geothermal is set at 11.4 TWh by 2035, The target for hydropower is set to a minimum of 37.4 TWh by 2035.
