With the 15-year PPA, Facebook will purchase 1 TWh of electricity per annum to power their Nordic data centers in Odense, Denmark and in Lulea, Sweden. The PPA will provide the necessary long-term financial certainty for the projects and will comprise an aggregate investment exceeding €400 million [1].
The electricity will come from the Bjerkreim cluster, consisting of three wind parks that are being developed near Stavanger. The €400 million farm will consist of 70 Siemens Gamesa 4.2 MW turbines, with a combined capacity of 294 MW to produce around 1 TWh annually [2].
The wind farm is being developed by Norsk Vind Energi AS and the park is expected to be completed during 2019. The wind farm is owned by the German asset manager Luxcara GmbH. Vattenfall AB was awarded a long-term supply and service contract for the Bjerkreim cluster. Vattenfall will also be the selected electricity supplier to Facebook’s data center facilities in Odense and Luleå [4].
