Investment into additional renewable energy capacity increased by 2% last year to €227bn globally. This is 13% below the record set in 2015. China stood for the vast majority of investments at €102 bn, most of which, being invested in solar power with a total of 53 GW installed. European investment was down by 36% compared to 2016, primarily due to large declines in Germany and the UK. Sweden however, more than doubled their investment into additional renewable capacity, with a total of €3 bn invested in 2017. With €4.9 bn invested Mexico had an impressive growth, where investments increased more than eightfold.
