Statistics recently published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) show the global renewable generation capacity at the end of 2017. The total installed capacity amounted to 2,169 GW. Hydropower contributed with the largest share of 1,152 GW. The share of wind power was at 514 GW and solar accounted for 397 GW. The installed capacity included 109 GW of bioenergy and 13 GW of geothermal.
Renewable generation capacity increased by 167 GW, or 8.3% during 2017. The biggest contributor was solar energy with an increase of 94 GW (up 32% from 2016). Second largest was wind energy, which increased by 47 GW (+10%), followed by 21 GW bioe...
