On Monday the 19th of March, the Dutch government announced that Vattenfall was awarded the permit for the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm. Vattenfall is set to build two facilities off the Dutch coast.
The successful tender means the generated electricity will be sold on the wholesale market rather than relying on revenue stabilization schemes. Furthermore, the government has taken on certain risks like connecting the wind farms to the country’s power grid [1]. The tender rules dictate that the wind farm needs to be fully operational within 5 years after an irrevocable permit, i.e. by 2022 [2].
