GE Renewable Energy has just announced the Haliade-X 12 MW wind turbine. It is the largest offshore wind turbine in the world to date, featuring 12 MW capacity, a 220m rotor and a 107m blade designed by LM Wind Power.
These features make the turbine less sensitive to wind speed variations, increases predictability and improves the ability to generate more power at low wind speeds. GE prises the Haliade-X as the most efficient wind turbine in the ocean. With a 63% capacity factor, the turbine can generate up to 67 GWh annually, which is 45% more AEP than the most powerful turbines on the market today, and twice as much as the Haliade 150-6MW.
