UK has met its provisional 15/16 targets although it consumes a lesser percentage of renewable energy than other European countries, new data shows.
Newly released UK Government’s statistics show 8.9 percent of the total energy consumption came from renewable sources in 2016. The share of renewable energy consumed has increased heavily since 2010 and has gone beyond its 7.5 percent provisional target during 2015/2016. However, when comparing with other European countries’ renewable share, a starkly different picture starts to emerge that shows the UK is lagging.
