The Spanish Ministry of Energy awarded 3,909 megawatts (MW) of solar and 1,128 MW of wind energy in its recent renewables auction. In the first renewable energy auction held earlier this year, PV could manage to win only 1 MW of the 3 GW capacity auctioned. The capacity from solar and wind energy, which initially the Spanish government planned to be 3,000 MW, will now award a capacity of 5,037 MW. The country aims to reach 20 % of energy consumption from renewables by 2020.
