The Commission recently announced that they have awarded a €4 million grant for a project aiming to build an interconnector linking the French and Irish electricity systems. This will ease the trading of energy between EU countries, enhance Ireland’s security of energy supply and allow more renewable energy to be integrated into the European grid. The contract was signed in by the EU's Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) on Wednesday the 28th of June 2017, witnessed by representatives of the French and Irish governments and the European Commission.
