Tale of two transport fuels - biomethane and green hydrogen in EU mobility

In this article, we give a breakdown of green gas for road transport in the EU, namely green hydrogen and biomethane. We outline the current usage based on vehicle registration data, as well as highlight some of the key policies and targets forging demand going forward. We also touch upon the role of green gas certificates in the fuel transition.

Demand and projections

Currently, biomethane and hydrogen usage are minimal compared to Natural Gas (NG) usage for all energy applications, including the road transport sub-sector.
