Grid-scale hydro storage project to be built in UK

The 99.9 MW Glyn Rhonwy pumped-hydro project in North Wales was granted a Development Consent Order. The facility will store around 700 MWh of electricity. 

The facility is being developed by Snowdonia Pumped Hydro. The 700 MWh of electricity will be able to supply 200,000 homes with electricity for seven hours a day. Water will be pumped through an underground tunnel from the lower to the upper reservoir, to generate electricity when required.
