5 May 2022 - In anticipation of an upcoming REPowerEU Communication, more than 500 companies representing bioenergy interests have written to the EC president Ursula Von der Leyen asking for fair consideration of bioenergy in shaping the Russian energy independence conversation.
The current EU stance on bioenergy while not dismissive, is critical mainly based on concerns around land usage and sustainability of feedstocks. This is evident in the criteria for biomass in the RED II and proposal for RED III via fit-for-55.
