Four new French renewable energy support schemes approved by the European Commission

All the four new aid schemes to promote renewable electricity production in France received approval from the European Commission late last year.

The following installations can apply for grants either through feed-in tariffs or top-up payments:

  • Installations using energy extracted from geothermal deposits
  • Installations of less than 500 kW which use biogas produced by methanisation (i.e. gas produced from agricultural residues and organic waste)
  • Hydroelectric plants of less than 1 megawatt (MW)
  • Wind farms which submitted a complete aid application in 2016 

In their remarks, the Commission notes that all four schemes help integrate new renewable energy producers into the market, as small installations (<500kW) will receive feed-in tariffs, and larger installations ...
