EC consultation on delegated act sparks debate on nuclear and gas activities

On 1 January 2022, the EC commenced consultations to draft a Taxonomy Complementary Delegated Act which will cover the usage of natural gas and nuclear energy for the near future. The usage of such energy sources in the context of the energy transition is controversial and the draft will attract much scrutiny.

The announcement for the EU Taxonomy was released in April 2021 and is intended to guide organisations (both public and private) towards climate neutrality heading to 2050. It does this by classifying activities/investments concerning sustainability, which can then be used to award/penalise organisations via economic incentives or taxes.
