RE100 Report: Significant progress towards 100% renewable energy

RE100, the global initiative encouraging leading companies to go 100% green on their power consumption, has seen major increase in use of renewable energy last year. Guarantees of origin being the most popular way to achieve goals in Europe.   

87 of the world’s leading companies are part of the RE100 initiative, where a vast majority of the members has the goal of reaching 100% renewable power by or before 2024. 11 members reached their target by 2015.

Many RE100 members made investments in renewables to reach their 100% renewable goals, quoting the use of Guarantee of Origins (GOs) and Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) as the mechanism used. Since 2015, companies such as Nordea, DNB and Gatwick Airport have reached 100% renewable electricity. Google announced that it will reach the same milestone in 2017.
