Some countries in Europe have recently reported milestones with renewable generation surpassing fossil fuel generation. We take closer look at the five largest electricity producers in Europe.
The data for the graphs in this article were taken from EUROSTAT, specifically the monthly dataset for electricity generation - nrg_cb_pem. This dataset has been recently updated, and contains data to May 2020 for most European countries.
Total electricity generation for 2019 is shown for the top 20 European nations below.
For 2019, both France and German stand out as the top power producers in Europe, both nations generating well in excess of 500 TWh according to EUROSTAT figures.
