Amidst a COVID-19 recession, the latest figures from BloombergNEF show global investment in new renewable capacity grew by 5% in the first half (H1) of 2020.
Figures from BNEF's database shows particular growth in the offshore wind sector with investments in H1 2020 totalling U$35 billion up a whopping 319% in the same period last year and above 2019's full-year figure (U$ 31.9 bn).
The first half of 2020 saw a string of major Renewable Energy (RE) investment deals including 28 separate global offshore wind projects. This included the world's largest-ever 1.5 GW Vattenfall Hollandse Kust Zuid array off the coast of the Netherlands. The wind farm will cost an estimated U$3.9 bn and will cover the annual electricity consumption of over 2 million Dutch households.
