Coronavirus and falling power demand impacting clean energy

UK sustainability media outlet Business Green has published an article about the impacts of the current Coronavirus pandemic on the green energy market, both short- and longer-term consequences.

Countries which have taken strong confinement measures have experienced a demand decline of approximately 15%, largely as a result of business operations halting. Decreasing demand and continuing weather patterns should see a higher renewables generation share in places such as Spain. Elsewhere however, weaker electricity demand means power generation capacity is abundant, which presents significant challenges for how to operate baseload power while managing fluctuating renewables generation on the grid.
