Statoil together with their partners in The Icelandic Deep Drilling Project are conducting research on geothermal energy and its use as a source in power production. They are currently drilling the world’s hottest geothermal well at Reykjanes, 50 km south west of the capital Reykjavik, at 5 km depth and temperatures of 400-500 degrees centigrade. A two and a half year test period will start by the end of 2016 to monitor the performance and production potential.
