Power consumption and the carbon footprint of the digital industry is huge: Google, Microsoft and the streaming services are coming under pressure.

According to The Shift Project think tank, the digital industry is already responsible for almost four percent of global emissions; environmentalists expect this to double over the next ten years given the increasing number of data centres.
