A likely entry of the Green Party into Austria’s government as junior coalition partner to the conservative Austrian People’s Party is likely to help the Alpine country end a current stagnation of its wind power expansion and reach its 100% renewables target by 2030.
Wind power currently provides 11% of Austria's power consumption, and the country is a net importer of electricity - often from non-renewable sources in neighbouring countries. Stefan Moidl, head of IG Windkraft suggested that wind power could be increased to meet 26% of demand by 2030.
