Deepwater Wind and General Electric Renewable Energy collaborated to build the first offshore wind farm in the U.S.A. The farm is located off the coast of Block Island has completed its commissioning and testing phases and begun commercial operations, in Dec 2016. As this is the nation’s first project of that kind, a lot of expertise was borrowed from Europe. Chris van Beek, the Dutch president of Deepwater Wind stated that an estimate of 20 to 25 nationalities is working on the windfarm. More offshore windfarms, especially in New Jersey and Virginia, are already in the planning stage.
