Australian officials announced Friday that the world’s biggest lithium-ion battery had been switched on in Hornsdale, South Australia. The battery is charged by a nearby windfarm, and has capacity of 100 MW, enough to power 30000 homes.
South Australia has experienced several severe power blackouts the last years, and this battery is a part of addressing this. Especially, during extreme heat, the demand spikes, making the power supply vulnerable.
