Per International Energy Agency (IEA), over a dozen countries have official targets for electrical car sales. Now Slovenia also has adopted a strategy that after 2030 the total CO2 footprint of a new-registered car must be less than 50 g per km. Currently, only electrical and plug-in hybrid vehicles can meet this standard.
Slovenia has the world’s highest car ownership rate - 523 cars per 1000 people, and in total 1.47 million road vehicles registered in the country. The Slovenian government states that this strategy “will promote electrically powered vehicles”. It is hoped that in 2030 more low-emission vehicle will be running on the road.
