In early 2019, the World Resources Institute (WRI) conducted a survey to evaluate the demand for additional Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) Guidance on carbon dioxide removals (natural and technological), bioenergy, land use, and land use change. The findings revealed that there was a strong demand for an accounting and reporting tool for the aforementioned topics since there was a lack of proper guidance for corporates to follow. Driven by the findings, GHGP has developed a new guidance called “Land Sector and Removals (LSR) Guidance”, aiming at providing companies with principles to account for and report relevant activities in their greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories.
