Yesterday (28 September 2022), the European Commission and industry leaders officially launched the Biomethane Industrial Partnership (BIP).
The formation of the group was already hinted at in the REPowerEU plan released in May, with the ambit of the group being to facilitate the 35 bcm by 2030 target.
This news is bullish for biomethane, particularly given that the initiative already includes lobby group European Biogas Association and major biogas player Nature Energy, who also had representatives present at the launch.
The BIP should evolve to be a cross-section of the biomethane community, with the potential to influence policy and rules affecting demand and supply at all levels, including small farm producers to large commodity and green certificate transactors.
We will keep an eye on the membership to the BIP, as well as policy positions coming from the group.
