FIFA is the first international sports organization to join a UN green initiative, and set themselves green targets for the 2018 World Cup.

FIFA (The Fédération Internationale de Football Association) has joined a United Nations (UN) climate change initiative, becoming the first international sports organization pioneering such an initiative. FIFA is responsible for organizing football's major international tournaments, and is most known for organizing the World Cup. Headquartered in Zürich, its membership now comprises 211 national associations. FIFA has now pledged to measure, reduce and compensate any carbon emissions created during the World Cup.
