Thursday, 06 May 2021

The Institut Luxembourgeois de Regulation (ILR) held an auction for 2021 Q1 production from 27 to 30 April 2021.

A summary of the prices and bid ranges is given in the graph below:

Wind volumes were up compared to the last quarter (95 GWh to 91 GWh for Q4 2020), with the average price more than doubling to 33 Eurocent/MWh (from 16 Eurocent/MWh for last quarter). This price is lower than current over-the-counter (OTC) prices for 2021 Production, which is around 39 Eurocent/MWh.

Biomass prices remained at 31 Eurocent/MWh, with volumes sold also remaining similar to last quarter (67 GWh). Solar GOs for Q1 production sold for 94 Eurocent/MWh,  32 Eurocents higher than the previous auction (62 Eurocent for Q4 2020 production). However, the associated volumes were low (1.8 GWh).

All volumes on offer were sold. The full details and results of the auction can be found on the Grexel website. On the ILR website, plant information can be found including commissioning date, which can determine eligibility for support schemes (e.g. UK FiT and CfD), which can influence the price.
